Minecraft Dungeons is one of Mojang’s newest additions that takes Minecraft to an entirely new level! It was originally released on Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One. The game is played in a top-down viewing mode (Similar to titles such as Diablo & Gauntlet) and contains both single-player and multiplayer modes. In this blog post, we will discuss what Minecraft Dungeons is exactly so you can decide if it’s something you want to play!
What’s the Gameplay Like?
Minecraft Dungeons is a role-playing game that takes place in Minecraft’s world. While the player can explore dungeons, they are also able to fight monsters and find treasure chests. The game also includes NPCs that act as side quests for players to complete, allowing them to level up their character and gather new items.
In addition, Minecraft Dungeons allows you to play with friends! However, it does have an emphasis on single-player content rather than multiplayer (similarly to other games such as Diablo). In order words, playing by yourself doesn’t feel like a drag as it still allows for fun gameplay experiences when going through missions/dungeons. Just like Minecraft, playing together with others is also great fun!
Is It Similar to Minecraft?
Essentially, no, it is not a crafting game. In fact, Minecraft Dungeons has very little to do with building at all! There are no resources and there’s nothing you can really “build”. Instead of gathering resources and using them for construction like in most other games (especially the original Minecraft), we see that Minecraft Dungeons focuses on role-playing elements such as exploring dungeons/mazes and fighting monsters/bosses.
What this means is there’s no need to worry about building bases or creating complex constructions when going through different levels. It does include some minor puzzle-solving but if you’re looking for an open-world sandbox experience similar to Minecraft, then I’m afraid that isn’t what this game will offer you.
Should You Play It?
Minecraft Dungeons is an interesting take on the classic Minecraft formula. If you are looking for a more linear experience rather than building, exploring and crafting then this game may actually be perfect for you! So why not get some friends together and give it a go for yourself? As a bonus, Minecraft Dungeons is now available on Steam!
