In this blog, we’ll be discussing why we’re now leveraging S3 to provide cloud storage functionality, and why Cloud Storage is better than our previous solution.
What is Cloud Storage?
Cloud storage is a type of cloud computing model which stores data on remote storage systems which is maintained and managed by a cloud computing provider. Cloud storage provides data redundancy which is one of main our priorities at Iceline Hosting. As we’re leveraging Cloud storage for game server backups, ensuring data isn’t lost is extremely important. Cloud storage provides flexibility allowing us to scale up/down the amount of storage we require. This is better than our traditional methods, as previously we would need to upgrade an entire server, or re-configure RAID if we added or upgraded our storage hardware.
What We Are Using Cloud Storage For
Cloud Backups was released along with our new Iceline Game Panel. By leveraging S3 cloud storage for our backup system, we’re able to guarantee reliability and integrity of customers data. As our Cloud storage provider utilises a combination of AES and SSL encryption, we’re also able to guarantee the security of customers data. High-availability is also one of the main reasons we made the migration to Cloud storage. Ensuring clients have access to their backups around the clock is one of our main priorities, as we understand how frustrating it can be to lose access even for a few minutes.
Why We Migrated to Cloud Storage
Majority of the reasons have been outlined above, but the most prominent reasons why were:

- Availability
Our traditional methods for game server backups made it extremely costly. Each time we needed to scale-up our backup solutions, it would mean either purchasing a new server entirely, or upgrading individual hardware. This meant downtime for our backup servers, and a large upfront cost would be incurred. After carrying out some research, we decided Cloud storage would be the most cost efficient, and easy-to-scale solution to date.

We’ve made backing up your server easier than ever, with every customer now having access to S3 Cloud Storage, with an easy to use control panel interface.
