Overview

The Better Loot plugin allows a Rust server admin to essentially allow for better loot (higher tier and increased quantities) in brown, military, & elite crates.

To install it, follow the below instructions:

  1. Navigate to the plugins menu in the Game Panel and click on the Better Loot INSTALL PLUGIN button.

  2. Once installed, go to your Rust Console page and start your server or restart your Rust server hosting it if it is currently running.
  3. First check that oxide is running by typing oxide.version into the console and pressing enter. You should get an oxide version number. E.G. Oxide.Rust Version: 2.0.####.
If not, you need to uninstall the uMod Mod and reinstall it.
  4. If your server is offline you will need to start and stop it in order to create the required BetterLoot.json file.

Editing the BetterLoot settings & options.

Locate and open the BetterLoot.json file using the file manager.

/home/container/oxide/config/BetterLoot.json

The above is the basic betterloot config.
What we are now going to do is see what loot the game produces with and without changing the above .json file.

Without changing the betterloot.json file

  1. This is what you will get from a green military crate found at various monuments:

2. Once we change the betterloot.json to the following:

3. We get the following in a green military crate:

4. The above change to the .json file has increased only the scrap and loot multiplier by 10 and has increased the chances of getting an M249 and Auto Turrets to the same chance as getting a targeting computer.

For example, you can customize it so that you can completely remove laptops and cameras from crates so you can only buy auto-turrets from an outpost, or, you can make every elite crate have an M249 in it. You can also increase the loot and scrap multiplier. To dig into the nitty-gritty, I suggest you check out the developer’s page below under the conclusion.
