How to Change Your Hytale Server Name and Description

Hytale early access has finally launched, and it features day-one support for community servers, meaning you can create your own dedicated server to play with your friends or your community, or you could try your luck and make it public for everyone to join!

But how can you identify your server from the rest? That's where settings like the server name come into play. With a unique name, players will be able to easily identify the server and join again in the future, and with a brief and concise server description or MOTD, you will be able to tell everyone what makes your server different from the rest and perhaps attract their attention.

With the Iceline game panel, making these changes is going to take you just a few clicks! In this tutorial, we'll be going over the process of changing the server name and server MOTD of your Hytale Server.

Before Starting

How to change the Server Settings through the Game Panel Startup tab

Thanks to the Iceline Game panel, these options can be edited through the server startup tab, saving you some time! Just follow these steps:

1. Log in to your Iceline Game Panel.
2. Select your Hytale server and turn it off.
3. In your navigation bar, click on Startup.
4. Replace the default values (SERVER_NAME and SERVER_MOTD) with anything of your choice.
5. Click on Save Changes when you're finished.
6. Restart the server.

How to change the Hytale Server Name

1. Log in to your Iceline Game Panel.
2. Select your Hytale server and turn it off.
3. In your navigation bar, click on Files.
4. Locate the configuration file (config.json) and open it.
5. Inside the configuration file, change the ServerName variable to anything of your choice, make sure it's a unique name!
6. Click on Save File when you're finished.
7. Restart the server.

Changes will be automatically applied to your server on restart. Make sure your server name does not contain unallowed characters; otherwise, it may not show up properly.

How to change the Hytale Server MOTD

Similarly to the server name, to change your server MOTD, you'd just have to follow these steps:

1. Log in to your Iceline Game Panel.
2. Select your Hytale server and turn it off.
3. In your navigation bar, click on Files.
4. Locate the configuration file (config.json) and open it.
5. Inside the configuration file, change the MOTD variable to anything of your choice, make sure to keep it as concise as possible!
6. Click "Save File" when you're finished.
7. Restart the server.
