Mods and plugins can enhance the experience in a game through additional content and features not included in the original product, leaving a lot of room for creativity to flow and adding a lot of replayability value to a game, which is why most games include support for Mods or plugins nowadays. Gaming communities can form around popular mods to the extent that some of their content can end up in the original game, or can evolve to a new game on its own (like Counter Strike!).
Fortunately, Hytale features support for mods and plugins, with official creator tools releasing on day one to help players make their own content to tailor their experiences as much as they want!
In addition to this, due to the nature of the modding system in Hytale, no client-side mods are required for players to join the server, whether you're adding Java plugins for custom game logic or minigames, or server-side mods like data/art assets like models or textures.
In today's guide, you'll learn how to install Hytale mods and plugins on your game server.
Before Starting
Ensure you have a Dedicated Hytale Server with sufficient resources to handle the mods/plugins you want to run. For this, Iceline Hosting is your best choice!
Iceline Hosting game panel supports instant setup, along with some features like an automatic Turbo Mode for mod-heavy CPU performance bursts (like world generation), enterprise-grade DDoS protection via the Iceline Shield Panel, and global locations (London, Frankfurt, Virginia, Texas, Oregon, Singapore, Sydney) to ensure low-latency play. If you don't have a server, feel free to check our available plans and start your journey today!
Once you're done, follow these steps to get everything started:
- Locate the mods/plugins from CurseForge (day-one support) or any of the community sources, like their forum or GitHub.
- Download the files to your PC.
Now that the files have been downloaded to your PC, you can proceed with the manual installation... or alternatively, make use of the Iceline Game Panel and install the mods automatically in a few seconds!
Installing Mods and Plugins through the Iceline Game Panel
Iceline Hosting features a custom game panel with multiple functions available, like a built-in installer for the popular mods and plugins of some games, in the case of Hytale, both mods and plugins will be installable once they're released. Just follow these steps:
- Log in to your Iceline Game Panel.
- Select your Hytale server and, in your navigation bar, click on Mods.
- Search for the mod/plugin you want installed on your server.
- Once located, click on Install.
- That's it! The panel will automatically download the required files and restart the server.

Installing Mods and Plugins manually through the File Manager
If you prefer to do it manually, the Iceline Game Panel also supports file management through the panel itself, or through a program like Filezilla with your SFTP credentials.
- Log in to your Iceline Game Panel.
- Select your Hytale server and stop the server through the power buttons.
- In your navigation bar, click on Files.
- Navigate to /plugins/ (for .jar files), and /mods/ or /data/ for server-side mods.
- Either drag-and-drop the previously downloaded files, or click on Upload and select the files on your PC.
- Start/Restart the server.
- Check your server console to see if the plugins loaded correctly.

That's it! If you've followed this guide correctly, the mod or plugin should have been added to your server, and you should see the changes once you join. For this, you can refer to the next step.
Verifying the Installation
Here are some recommended steps you could follow to ensure the plugin or mod was installed correctly on the server:
- Copy your Hytale Server IP and try joining, see if you get any errors.
- On the in-game console, run /plugins or /mods to list the loaded content, and check if your newly added plugins are showing under that list.
- Test any related features from the mod you're using, for example, the new commands or items.
- Monitor your server performance in the Game panel, keep an eye out for any hitches.

Facing any issues?
| Issue | Solution |
|---|---|
| Plugin not loading | Check console for errors, make sure you're using the correct files. Restart the server. |
| Mod conflicts | Check for duplicate files in /plugins/ and remove them; read the documentation of each mod/plugin to check incompatibilities. |
| Lag with mods | Make sure your server has enough RAM/CPU, you can upgrade at any time through the billing panel. |
| Players can't see changes | Make sure the plugin loaded correctly, suggest a restart to refresh cache. |
